Open Peer Review in Europe

Interesting project related to Open Peer Review in Europe conducted by OpenAIRE.

“Studies show that although academics are, on the whole, fairly content with peer review, they think it could work better. Common complaints include the time the process takes, lack of accountability, potential reviewer bias, lack of incentive and duplication of effort.

Hence, as part of OpenAIRE2020’s investigation of new developments in scholarly communication, project partners Göttingen State and University Library in Germany, COUPERIN in France and the Consiglio Nazionale Delle Ricerche (CNR) in Italy, are conducting research into new peer review approaches.

This work will involve a landscape scan and evaluation of new forms of publishing and (open) peer review. It will consider various routes of publishing (formal and informal) as well as types of publications (journal articles, monographs, proceedings, etc.). In particular, it will describe and classify new forms of peer review mechanisms (workflows, quality assurance, community involvement, benefits for authors and reviewers, integration with open access eInfrastructures,etc.).”
